Endovascular Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is one of the most known areas on which our hospital received multiple national certifications in Korea. Currently, the treatment of such medical procedures like the embolization of vascular aneurysms, acute cerebral infarction, occlusion of the carotid artery, cerebrovascular disease, is carried out without craniotomy (conventional method), and a lot of endovascular operations performed at the St. Mary's Hospital do not leave any mark or scar. In 2012, in our hospital was performed the first operation in Korea for the stent of giant aneurysms, which opened a new chapter in endovascular surgery. This experience in vascular surgery and endovascular interventions successfully practiced during the last 20 years and it should be noted that the complication ratio on these endovascular surgical procedures is less than 1%. Furthermore, these types of endovascular operations could reduce the problem of nosocomial infections since it is no longer requires prolonged hospitalization as postoperative stay in the hospital after these operations takes no more than 3 days.

The specialized center for the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant lung tumors was established to improve the life quality of patients where they can get the best treatment and at the same time can be supported with a systemic treatment that provides increasing survival statistics. The simplest method for treatment of breast cancer is surgery, which is performed as a basic for breast cancer, and operation of axillary lymph nodes, to prevent metastasis; in some cases a partial mastectomy, in the case of large lesions or metastases complete removal, depending on the stage of disease. After the surgery, the treatment is also supported with chemotherapy consolidation or hormonal therapy as adjuvant therapy and prevention of relapse after surgery, which shows a good prognosis.  

Center for spinal radiosurgery

Radiosurgery is one of various types of conventional radiation therapy, which is performed by multiple radiations to the tumor. But it falls on normal tissues, and therefore it is important to measure the dose of radiation that normal tissue can withstand. Certain limitations must be considered a therapeutic dose of radiation, which can inhibit the effect of tumor necrosis and tumor growth. Disregarding limitations arise difficulties in the further treatment. If the tumor is irradiated with normal dose, recurrence will not occur. In addition, there are also the sensitive spinal nerves adjacent to the tumor, which in radiation damage to nerve may limit these procedures. Spinal or brain radiosurgery is a procedure that performed in order to study with the help of radiation, not a knife, and remove the lesion, i.e. tumor. Considering the effect of radiation, there can be a tumor necrosis when the wrong dose selected. Currently professional surgeons often use this method to remove brain tumors. On the contrary to the traditional surgery this method allows them escape cutting the skin, does not cause bleeding after surgery, requires no recovery period, and means almost safe surgery.
